Bon Ton :: Classic Wedding Invites

Maria and Fulvio have officially tied the knot and I had the privilege to print up their wedding invites. In the design process I got to learn a thing or two about etiquette; wasn't the Emily Post type, but the Italian version Donna Letizia painter, illustrator, writer and perhaps better known for her commentary on how to be polite.
IL SAPER VIVERE

In her book, Il Saper Vivere (The Know How to Live), there is a chapter on wedding etiquette and sweet examples of historical typographic wedding prints one of which was Italy’s very own Giovanni Agnelli (founder of FIAT).

GIOVANNI AGNELLI'S WEDDING INVITES
Letizia explains dutifully how to write your wedding invitations according to best tradions such as if one of the parents are widowed, divorced, or if a bride or groom are orphaned or over the age of twenty five and thirty.

Other suggestions include to avoid colored paper, gothic lettering or other formats which are outside the norm like decoration. Highly recommended is to use cursive lettering and a format of 12,5 cm x 16 cm. Bride and groom did decide against the cursive and chose Bodoni as lettering instead on Magnani paper.

All the very best to this classic couple--we should all be so bold to be so!
